Ash Class
Ash Class
Every day for us it is about making the difference for the lives of our pupils and their families! We treasure and celebrate all the small steps and achievements that each of the pupils make. The smiles, engagement and enjoyment they get throughout the day is a very important part of our day.
In Ash class, many of the pupils experience moderate to severe physical disabilities and may have a combination of additional needs including complex medical needs and multisensory (visual and/or hearing) impairments. Many have profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD). Ash class encourage a nurturing and supportive environment, delivered through personalised learning opportunities in small class groups.
Within Vranch House School, we have a curriculum that focuses on physical development, communication and cognition and experience and expression. For Ash class, this means we are working daily on the IEP goals set around these three areas. We do daily physiotherapy and postural management plans. We do weekly sensory sessions, music therapy, music awareness sessions, Innowalk slots and rebound slots for the pupils who would benefit from that, hydrotherapy on a weekly basis. We also have regular opportunities to go out in our sensory garden and enjoy local class trips to the local park and local shops, along with yearly trips to places like the Quay in Exeter, the beach and Ikea for sensory exploration trips. Along with the VIEW Curriculum, we also access a range of AQA awards which the pupils have been working towards throughout the year.
We are a multi-disciplinary team and work closely with the Occupational therapist, physiotherapist, the nurses who are onsite, teaching staff team, management team and our music therapist.
Within our day we also have routines for personal care, gastronomy feeding, giving prescribed medication and working on independence skills throughout their daily routines.
