Dear Parents & Carers,

Re: Queen Elizabeth II Funeral - Bank Holiday

On the 11th of September 2022, the Government and Department for Education (DfE) announced that the sad passing of Queen Elizabeth II marks the start of a period of national mourning, and the day of her state funeral will be made a Bank Holiday. In an update circulated to all school in the United Kingdom, the DfE have declared that:

"The official date of the State Funeral is 19 September 2022. This day will be a bank holiday and settings that are normally closed on a bank holiday should close on this day as a mark of respect. This will include schools and colleges." and that "...normal attendance is expected at schools and colleges throughout the national mourning period, other than the bank holiday. The bank holiday will mark the end of the mourning period."

Parents and Carers are therefore informed that Vranch House School will be closed to pupils on Monday 19th September and will re-open on Tuesday 20th September. If your child is entitled to school transport, please ensure that your child's transport operator is aware that they will not need to be collected on this day, but will resume normal school attendance from the 20th September. Thank you.

All staff at Vranch House extend their deepest sympathies to his Majesty King Charles III on the loss of his mother and our thoughts are with all of the Royal Family at this time.

Yours sincerely

Ian Norton
Head of Education
