It is with considerable sadness that we report the sudden death of our Chairman, Mr Sidney Torlot. Sidney dedicated his entire retired life to the two most important things to him, his family and Vranch House. He served as a member of the Appeals Committee, as a member of the old Management Committee and became Chairman of Trustees in 1996 serving in that office for ten years until 2005. When circumstances demanded Sidney volunteered for a second time in 2012 and was half way through the first year of his second term as Chairman. For those that did not know him, Sidney was a gentleman from a different age. Invariably courteous, always patient and kind he nevertheless had a fine business mind and was deeply committed to our work. Whatever dramas we encountered - and there have been the odd one or two in the last 20 years - Sidney had an entirely unflappable faith that we would overcome present difficulties to enjoy a future triumph and the extraordinary thing is that he was always right. Although modest to a fault it is right to record that a great deal of our success was built at the very least on the foundations of his counsel and support. We shall miss him greatly.
