Parent's/Carer's Letter September 2017

Dear Parents and Carers of Vranch House pupils

A warm welcome back to you all, I have already heard much and more about some amazing holiday experiences and I hope that you all had a happy and restful summer.

We have started the year with a mixture of sorrow and excitement.  Hopefully you will have all received the letter from the Management Team here at Vranch House informing you all of the sad news that one of our older pupils, Emily Crisp, passed away recently.  We will be holding a celebration of Emily's life, as well as the lives of William and Lizzie who passed away earlier this year, later on this term and I will send out further details in due course.

Looking forward, I am extremely happy to be able to say that Vranch House has now been granted an extension of a registration with the Department for Education.  We are now licensed to deliver education and services to a maximum of 33 pupils, aged 2 to 18yrs.  This means that we now have a brand new class, Class 4, as the first of three secondary classes here at Vranch House.  I am in the process of publishing a revision to our Core Offer that explains some of these changes.

It is a pleasure to introduce two new teachers joining the staff team here at Vranch House this term:

Evelyn Gawen - Class 3 - who comes to us with a wide ranging experience of working with children with Special Education Needs, in New Zealand and the UK; most recently working at the WESC Foundation (school for the blind and visually impaired) here in Exeter.

Zoe Gilbert - Class 4 - who is an experienced SEN practitioner with a keen interest in ICT and Communication.  Zoe joins us from having worked most recently at Mill Water school, near Newton Poppleford.

We also have a new pupil, Lisa Shapland, joining Class 1 this term, so welcome Lisa!

I hope you will join me in welcoming them all to our school.

Dates for your diaries

Tuesday 10th October - Tempest Photography will be in school to take photographs of all our pupils and staff as part of our annual updates.  Approval copies of pupil portrait photographs will be sent home with the opportunity to purchase these if you wish.

NHS Flu Vaccinations - date TBC. Boots, in conjunction with the NHS, offer all pupils at Vranch House the opportunity to receive a free Flu vaccination during a school day in the Autumn term.  Look out for the NHS information packs in your child's home-school book and please complete and return the relevant forms if you would like your child to be vaccinated this year.

I wish you all a happy new start to the academic year and, as always, if you would like to discuss any specific issues or queries, perhaps around our new provision, please do come and see me.

With kind regards

Ian Norton

Head of Education
