Parent's Newsletter March 2015

Date added: Tuesday 24th March 2015
Latest updated: Thursday 23rd February 2023

Dear Parents

Thank you for the interest from parents who came to the recent Peninsula Cerebra Unit (PenCRU) event. Their research projects depend on parents of children with cerebral palsy and they invite parents to come forward with research ideas that are of interest to them. PenCRU already have a big bank of reports on family-led research projects available to all parents. Families can sign up for their very informative emailing list and can join research talks on different subjects. Their most recent research projects are on specialist seating and the wellbeing of parents. If you are interested in joining the ‘family faculty' email [email protected] or call 01392 722901. Please find enclosed a leaflet from PenCRU explaining their involvement further.

We will endeavour to continue to organise such brilliant informative events for parents.

Easter celebrations

All families are welcome to join us on Thursday 26th March to make Easter bonnets, biscuits and cards at our workshops (10.00-10.40; 11.20-12.00; 13.30-14.10) and the Easter parade (from 14.10).

Topic

Spring is upon us and all our plants - peas, beans, melons - are growing nicely!

‘Kings, knights and castles' will be our topic in the Summer term. We are excited to learn about present kings and queens as well as from earlier eras. The School Council chose the special focus for us this term; Queen Victoria won over Henry VIII and Alfred the Great. If you have any story books, non-fiction books, pictures, films or artefacts that you could lend us then we would be happy to incorporate them in our topic.

Thank you for your positive feedback on the letter ‘how parents can support their child's learning at home'. The teachers will once again send home letters regarding our Summer term curriculum. They will also send home ‘wow moments' slips and we would like parents to write down and send in any fantastic things you see your child doing or saying at home.

School trip

We are looking forward to our whole school trip on 20th May. To link with our topic we will visit Powderham Castle (www.powderham.co.uk). The logistics of transporting all the children there is not easy. Therefore I am sending a plea to all parents who might be able to help by joining us on the day. Please let me know if you are able to help with the whole school trip. Thank you!

Wet wipes

Wet wipes, even the ones for sensitive skin contain chemicals. From Easter we will be using wipes which contain only water on face and hands. This wipe can be used for oral hygiene as well as a usual wet wipe. This eco friendly, biodegradable wipe contains no chemicals and therefore is kinder for the skin. Please send in wipes of your choice for toileting use.

My Goals

Shortly after the Easter break your child will take home their Summer Goals. Please get in touch with the class teacher to suggest short term goals you would specifically like us to work on with your child.

Spare clothes

We ask parents to provide a set of clothes in case of accidents. We have spare clothes for emergencies but are running low on supplies. If your child took home clothes from Vranch, please wash and return them so we can reuse them.

Mobile phones

There are many signs around the school to remind us all that the use of mobile phones is prohibited at Vranch House. To ensure the safety of our pupils please turn off your phone on arrival.

Fundraising

We raised £95.70 for Comic Relief. Thank you for your generous donations!
